New research released today reveals that 74% of Brits consider the Seven Cardinal Sins to be outdated and redundant, instead citing racism, domestic violence, terrorism, bullying, tax evasion, bigotry and even binge drinking as the ultimate wrong-doings in today's society. The research, polling 2,000 Brits, was commissioned by CBS Reality to launch the real life series, Sins & Secrets, premiering exclusively on CBS Reality on Monday 17th September at 10pm.

Furthermore, it was revealed that 67% believe the term 'sin' is ineffective in defining the true meaning of the Seven Deadly Sins which date back to early 14th Century and include; lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride.

Of the seven original deadly sins, a staggering 86% of the UK population has admitted to committing at least one, with almost half of respondents confessing to the cardinal sin of envy. In contrast, only 21% of the nation believes they have 'sinned' under the new criteria by confessing to binge drinking (less than 5% admitted to being guilty of the other six modern deadly sins). When it comes to forgiveness, the UK felt that perpetrators of the original seven deadly sins were deserving of a second chance with 82% stating that they would forgive those who committed these misdemeanours.

Sam Rowden, Director of Programming for CBS Reality said: "We conducted the research initially to see how the sins in the show measure up to what is traditionally considered to be sinful. It is perhaps unsurprising that society feels so strongly that racism should be considered a modern deadly sin, but it is interesting to see how the original seven sins are considered out of date by many in society. The research has really opened our eyes as to the strength of public feeling towards some of the biggest issues today."

Sins & Secrets reveals the grim truth of the criminal underworld which can be found in every neighbourhood demonstrating that no one can ever be sure of what is really happening behind the net curtains of suburbia. Using real life footage, dramatic reconstructions and witness interviews, the sins and secrets criminals have tried so desperately to bury are exposed.
